The LETMA Autumn School 2026. Waves & Geosciences: Infrasound and Beyond is the second edition of a thematic school organized within the framework of LETMA (Laboratoire Études et de Modélisation Acoustiques). Following the successful first edition held in 2022, the workshop aims to bring together graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, scientists, and engineers working in atmospheric infrasound, gravity waves, and related disciplines. More information on the previous edition is available on the first edition page.
While the first edition primarily focused on the generation, propagation, and applications of atmospheric infrasound, the 2026 workshop broadens its scope to address wave interactions across the Earth system. New topics include coupling between seismic, atmospheric, oceanic, and ionospheric waves, emerging Artificial Intelligence methods for wave analysis, and planetary acoustics, reflecting recent developments and new challenges in geophysical wave propagation.
The scientific program combines lecture courses, hands-on practical sessions, and research presentations, providing participants with both the theoretical foundations and practical tools needed to understand and investigate wave propagation in geophysical and planetary environments. Lectures and practical sessions will be delivered by internationally recognized experts in the field. Each day will focus on a specific scientific theme and will follow the format below:
| Day | Theme |
|---|---|
| Monday | Overview of research on atmospheric waves: direct and inverse problems, and societal challenges; |
| Tuesday | Infrasonic waves, gravity waves, and ocean wave propagation; |
| Wednesday | Seismic–infrasound coupling, effects of infrasound on the atmosphere and ionosphere, and inverse problems; |
| Thursday | Artificial intelligence for waves; |
| Friday | Planetary acoustics and wave propagation in planetary atmospheres. |
