The Center for Acoustic Research was created in 1984, on the campus of Ecole Centrale de Lyon, to respond to the growing interest in research activities in Acoustics and Aeroacoustics. The Center for Acoustic Research is one of the 4 research groups of the Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory (LMFA, UMR 5509).
The activities of the Center for Acoustic Research are organized around Aeroacoustics of rotating surfaces, Dynamic and acoustic of compressible shear flows, and Propagation in non-homogeneous media and nonlinear effects.
The Center for Acoustic Research is a founding member of the CeLyA Laboratory of Excellence (LabEx). CeLyA is an alliance of the main research teams working in acoustics in Lyon & Saint-Etienne (80 permanent researchers; engineering acoustics, medical applications of acoustics and sound perception). The Center for Acoustic Research is also part of the Carnot Institute Engineering-at-Lyon.
